★例会開催の背景
1) Tontonoz教授は、Spiegelman教授の元でPｈ.D.を取得、Evans教授の元でポスドクを経験した異彩な経歴を持つ。若手ではあるが、Cell、Nature Medicineなど一流紙に数多くの報告があり、世界のトップ研究者の一人である。彼の多岐にわたる研究分野から、今回、LXRを介したコレステロール代謝と細胞増殖、免疫反応に関する御講演をしていただく。
2) Auwerx教授は、核内受容体を中心に様々な病態発症メカニズムとその治療法をNature、Cell紙等に数多く報告している、世界のトップ科学者の一人である。今回、多岐にわたる多くの研究の中から、エネルギー代謝調節を中心に、核内受容体のCo-factorであるSIRT１、SRCファミリーとPGC-1αの関係を御講演いただく。

★例会開催の背景
Kaunitz教授は、消化器内科医として腸管の研究をしてこられた。最近、腸管と骨代謝に「pHによる制御」という類似点があることに着目され、胃酸が十二指腸において重炭酸塩で中和される調節機構と、骨吸収のために酸を分泌する破骨細胞が骨芽細胞による骨形成を活性化する骨リモデリング機構とに共通性があるという仮説を発表された（Kaunitz and Yamaguchi, 2008, J. Cell.Biochem.）。本セミナーでは、骨代謝学と消化器学の境界領域を探ることをテーマに、Kaunitz教授、Crowe教授とErnst教授にご講演をいただく。Crowe教授には胃腸や肝臓の疾患における骨粗鬆症について、さらにErnst教授にはH. pylori感染に伴う胃の上皮細胞についてご講演いただき、セミナー「Bone and Bowel」として、骨と消化管の両方の分野の研究者の討論の場になることを期待いたします。

Peter Tontonoz received his B.A. from Wesleyan University and his M.D. and Ph.D. from Harvard Medical School. His Ph.D. thesis was carried out in the laboratory of Dr. Bruce Spiegelman at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and his postdoctoral training with Dr. Ronald Evans at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Dr. Tontonoz is currently Professor of Pathology and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. He serves on the leadership council of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the editorial boards of JCI, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Molecular Endocrinology and the Journal of Lipid Research.
